What is Cyber Essentials?

Cyber Essentials is an effective, Government backed scheme that will help you to protect your organisation, whatever its size, against a whole range of the most common cyber attacks. Cyber Essentials represents a minimum baseline standard for cyber security in the UK.

The Cyber Essentials Controls

  • User Access Control
    Manage who is able to access your computer and what they are permitted to do.
  • Secure Configuration
    Configure your computer's security to limit the possibility of a cyber criminal finding a way in.
  • Secure Update Management
    Intercept cybercriminals from using flaws in software as weak points to get into your system.
  • Malware Protection
    Detect and disarm viruses or other malicious software before it can cause harm to your system.
  • Firewalls and Routers
    Implement a security filter between your network and devices and the internet to prevent online risks.

Cyber Essentials

Cyber Essentials is an online self-assessment questionnaire. A board member from your organisation must sign a declaration to confirm that your answers are true. Your questionnaire is then marked by an independent assessor.

Cyber Essentials Plus

Cyber Essentials Plus

Cyber Essentials Plus puts the same controls in place but a technical expert will conduct an audit on your IT systems to give a higher level of assurance.
